Originally it was going to be funded through this ministry completely. After Margi threatened to resign, it was adjusted. An agreement was reached by which Margi would transfer the funds for this operation to the Ministry of Culture who would then pay the non-Orthodox community rabbis.

So, the funding is still coming from the Ministry of religious Affairs, but it is being funneled through the Ministry of Culture for appearances sake.

I think we call that money laundering.Rafi G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00699851287106903971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-12336007563740956882012-05-30T15:13:48.543+03:002012-05-30T15:13:48.543+03:00so it seems. i was confused by that initially, hav...so it seems. i was confused by that initially, having seen what looked like conflicting reports. It does seem that this will go through the Ministry of Culture and Sport and be called a cultural expense rather than a religious expense. The problem in Israel is that the government also decides which type of religious services should be supported.dlzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08269900740743979382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-32269892585000854672012-05-30T12:01:20.418+03:002012-05-30T12:01:20.418+03:00Agreed. But then I'm pretty libertarian about this kind of thing: IMHO the state's function should be confined to justice, national defense and essential infrastructures like roads, electricity etc. Even that last point I concede only grudgingly. Religious services is definitely none of their business.Shaul Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13657787388625188732noreply@blogger.com
