That response is - the women dont want to be in the parties. The women know they have a different task in life, and don't want to get involved in party politics.
If that is the case, there biggest problem might soon be that the party will want women, so as not to lose the party money but no women will want to join...Rafi G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00699851287106903971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-15783133831003507272013-11-16T21:53:23.103+02:002013-11-16T21:53:23.103+02:00as of today, men have a lot of advantages in many ...as of today, men have a lot of advantages in many different areas of government. yahadut hatorah works to keep this status quo. they have thrown absolute fits when someone proposes laws which give women an "in". so while i see a lot of problems with this type of law, my sympathy for gafni and any problems that is party will encounter is extremely limited.Ben Waxmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02798895161663664689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-26936803500816820192013-11-16T21:28:18.541+02:002013-11-16T21:28:18.541+02:00In Israel, democracy means whatever the media want...In Israel, democracy means whatever the media wants to make it mean.Joshnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-60596487720487411222013-11-15T12:26:46.652+02:002013-11-15T12:26:46.652+02:00The proposed law is discriminatory, just like the ...The proposed law is discriminatory, just like the lawsuit was:
http://yamakedma.blogspot.co.il/2013/10/want-equality-you-might-just-get-what.htmlAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18040752573684514389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-77451071450476786982013-11-14T22:46:42.799+02:002013-11-14T22:46:42.799+02:00I don't believe democracy means what you think...I don't believe democracy means what you think it means.Avihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15987913203857736139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-4789433666125793422013-11-14T17:14:36.835+02:002013-11-14T17:14:36.835+02:00"He accused the secular of hypocrisy, as in t..."He accused the secular of hypocrisy, as in the recent elections, out of 256 municipalities, only 3 women were elected."

He's assuming this law is aimed exclusively against the haredi parties, but why should he assume that? Maybe the law is at least partially intended to remedy exactly the situation Gafni himself is pointing to. In America, this issue of "Orthodox" political parties doesn't even exist, yet there have been various quota systems used, at least on the intra-party level. Whether one agrees with the proposal or not, it's not as if this issue only exists in the context of the secular being out to get the haredim.Baruch Gitlinnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-17724997007238270012013-11-14T16:38:40.215+02:002013-11-14T16:38:40.215+02:00I thought this was supposed to be a democracy?I thought this was supposed to be a democracy?dlzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08269900740743979382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-43772375902114871012013-11-14T15:11:49.056+02:002013-11-14T15:11:49.056+02:00does this mean that parties that have primaries mu...does this mean that parties that have primaries must reserve spots for women? great for likud women. imagine the woman with the highest number of votes comes in 10th but gets pushed up to 3rd (or whatever) to fulfill the law. or the woman who is elected to an unrealistic spot who pushed up.Ben Waxmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02798895161663664689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-56478288824470799922013-11-14T15:09:29.182+02:002013-11-14T15:09:29.182+02:00even if passed, why can't yahadut hatorah simp...even if passed, why can't yahadut hatorah simply add 5 women, at spots 10 and below? do a k'ilu and laugh?Ben Waxmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02798895161663664689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20257999.post-361391426990771542013-11-14T14:44:31.077+02:002013-11-14T14:44:31.077+02:00But our esteemed mayor, Harav Moshe Abutbul said i...But our esteemed mayor, Harav Moshe Abutbul said in his interview last week that Chareidi parties don't have women on their list because the women don't want to be - that they prefer to stay at home and cook in the kitchen and take care of their kids....the voted only oncenoreply@blogger.com
