This is actually a couple of days old, but I feel like posting it anyways...
"It is actually the biggest armed robbery in the history of the 20th century."
---former MK, Azmi Bishara, about Israel
This reminds me of the first Rashi in Chumash that says, "Now for what reason did He commence with “In the beginning?” Because of [the verse] “The strength of His works He related to His people, to give them the inheritance of the nations” (Ps. 111:6). For if the nations of the world should say to Israel, “You are robbers, for you conquered by force the lands of the seven nations [of Canaan],” they will reply, "The entire earth belongs to the Holy One, blessed be He; He created it (this we learn from the story of the Creation) and gave it to whomever He deemed proper When He wished, He gave it to them, and when He wished, He took it away from them and gave it to us."
Who would have thought that such a claim, exactly as defined by Rashi, would actually ever be made in this day and age?? Azmi Bishara reminds us that there is nothing new under the sun, and that claim is as real today as it ever was.
To counter that, we need to internalize the belief in the answer, ""The entire earth belongs to the Holy One, blessed be He; He created it (this we learn from the story of the Creation) and gave it to whomever He deemed proper When He wished, He gave it to them, and when He wished, He took it away from them and gave it to us." so that we have the strength to respond in kind.
What really disturbs me about this quote is that it was made by a former member of Knesset. How insane it is that Israel allows people who dispute its right to exist to actually serve as its lawnakers. That's not democracy, that's suicide.
ReplyDeletevery true...
ReplyDeleteI remember learning that some said that Rashi's comments where directed to the non-Jews--while others said that his message was really for the Jews who would actually start to believe the shtuth of the non-Jews (e.g., Peace Now, Tipshi Livni, Ehud Smolmert etc.)
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought that such a claim, exactly as defined by Rashi, would actually ever be made in this day and age??
ReplyDeleteRashi, and HaRav Tzvi Yehuda, from what I hear.
The leftists always badmouth the yishuvim, but in fact, much of the kibbutz land, as well as much of most Israeli cities, including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Beersheva, Ashkelon, etc... were once occupied by Arabs.
Around 10 years ago or maybe more, we were over at friends who had a TV, and there was a program on some Jordanian channel about the mosques of "Palestine".
What was included as "Palestine"?
Beersheva and Tzfat, Tiberius and Ashkelon, Tel Aviv and Acco. In fact, the ONLY mosque mentioned across the green line was al-Aqsa.
