Shame 'em and run 'em out of town!

I wonder if something like this would work as a way of getting the hooligans to stop their violent behavior. What they do is more public, so I would guess not.

A divorced Jacksonville woman said her former church has threatened to "go public with her sins" and tell the congregation about her sexual relationship with her new boyfriend.
Rebecca Hancock said harassment from Grace Community Church in Mandarin over her sex life caused her to leave, but she said that didn't put an end to the problem. She said she received a letter from the church's elders telling her the church plans to make her personal life very public.
"I'm basically run out. I'm the church harlot," Hancock said.
Also, once you start publicizing people's sins, it will then be used against all sorts of people doing things wrong that is nobodies business, leading to a communal disaster. Probably better not to start using this method...

  1. That, and they don't consider what they do to be sins.

However, there's a lot we can do these days with digital photography. Maybe a compromising photo of Heimlich with Madonna plastered on on all of their poster boards?

  2. Arming teenagers about to go through suspected neighbourhoods with tasers would work better.

  3. I have a probably naive but important question here.

Where are the RBSA "moderate" Rabbonim.

When the possibility of TOV and Shalom lerner were looming on the horizon Rabbi Kornfeld was quick to bring in the heavy "artillery" in the form of Rav Shteinman to come and mussar us as to who to vote for.

But for violence against other Jews there is nothing but silence.

    Where is Rabbi's concern now?

Not even one word from the local Charedi rabbis.

They can voice their opinions about politics, kashrus, mikva, schools, etc.

But when Jews are attacked by other Jews...suddenly they're quiet.

    What a shanda.

  4. Sounds of Silence,
    That's exactly the problem.

Rabbi Kornflakes is not a moderate. He is an extremist who that holds that Rabbi Kopshitz is a gadol.

Rabbi Kopshitz supports the violence, by the way.

  5. Really truly, all those hooligans need is one really good beating. That is usually the cure for bullies.

Yes, you are naive. The RBSA moderate rabonim are in ....RBSA!
They have their own kehilos, people who are actually prepared to listen to them.
Do you imagine that a bunch of crazed kanoim in RBSB really care at all what Rabbi Kornfeld says? Do you think they care what any rabonim in RBSA have to say?
These rabonim are not going to be making pronouncements when they have no audience.

  7. Hamasig,
Rabbis preach with no audience all the time. They have their priorities though. If they didn't say anything about this, it is because it wasn't high on their priority list or worse.

  8. But at least the're hoping someone in the kehila is listening. Here we all know - NO ONE is listening. Bloggers don't count. They aren't the one's who are making trouble. Neither are members of kehilas HaGro.

  9. Hamasig,

You are dead right and dead wrong.

Correct, the Rabbonim are in RBSA (and not in RBSB).

However their kehillos need chizuk in this matter.

    "Shtika k'hodaah".

If they remain silent they are condoning this behavior.

Rav Kornfeld didn't have to schlep Rav Shteinman here to force Gimmel down our throats...but he did.

Rav Kornfeld has told me (and others) where we should (and shouldn't) give our support and tzedaka. He has a voice to tell me who to vote (and not to vote) for.

Where is his (and other rabbi's )voice now?

It is issues such as this that has changed my opinion about certain Rabbonim in our community.

If they want to be silent...let them be silent about everything.

  10. So what do expect him to tell you? Don't beat up folks in Bet?
He wants to influence you how to vote. He wants to influence you where to give your tzedaka.
Does he really think he can or needs to influence anyone whom to and whom to not beat up.
    Be realistic.

  11. Hamasig,

Let him just come out and say it's wrong.

He should want to reach out to the pain and confusion of people in his kehilla who don't understand how Jews can do this to one another.

    What is he afraid of?
