Rabbi Richman on Birkat HaChama and Korban Pesach (video)

Rabbi Richman, from the Temple Institute in Jerusalem, talks about Birkat HaChama being a distraction from the greater issue that should be discussed regarding Erev pesach - that is the Korban Pesach and the Beis Hamikdash....

  1. Here's a summary for those who don't have time to watch it:

Since it's not directly involved with the Beis Hamikdash, it's a waste of time.

(OK, that was a bit cynical, but that doesn't make it wrong.)

He's also selective about what he quotes. He cites a Yerushalmi which indicates that the Beis Hamikdash will be built after Moshiah comes. However, he ignores the Bavli (talking about whether one has to wait until the end of the day on the 16th of Nissan to eat chadash) that indicates that the opposite is true (according to both opinions in that gemara - sorry I don't have the source; this isn't Hirhurim after all).
