Some interesting points made in the petition on her behalf are:
- She is imprisoned by herself for over a year in a small room with no ventilation, while she clothes herself in multiple layers, her body is inflicted with wounds and she refuses to have them treated by a doctor because of tzniyus issues.
- The children have petitioned the authorities saying their mother is mentally unstable and that is why she abused them, and she needs rehab not prison.
The prisons are not really rehabilitation centers, and that is a shame. Many prisoners would benefit more from being in a rehab center and getting treated for whatever their problems are rather than being in prison.
But when a crime is committed, prison is the punishment even if it does not necessarily provide the rehab, unfortunate as it may be.
I wonder if petitioning the Red Cross has a din of being a moser. Maybe because the prison services and courts are not frum, perhaps there is not such an issue.

I don't think it's being a moser, since the Red Cross has no authority.
ReplyDeleteI do find it ironic that with all the syagim she has taken upon herself, she is willing to accept help from an organization whose very name is a symbol of idolotry.
She sounds like the man who murdered his parents and then threw himself on the mercy of the court because he was an orphan. She seems to want to have things both ways, all ways, but most definitely her own way. Sorry, but prison doesn't work that way. She committed a crime and she's paying the price for that.
ReplyDeleteRehab? Yes, in some cases. But not all of those who commit crimes are capable of being rehabilitated. One first step in the process is the admission that the person did something wrong, that they recognize that there is a problem. Don't think that is the case here.
Out of curiousity - why has she been stuck there for so long - I don't recall there ever being a court conviction.
ReplyDeleteShe is definitely wacko, and should have a few layers forcibly removed (though I recommend gas masks for those doing it), but prison is probably not the place for her - she needs a mental assylum
