I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead. And I don't think that the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that the Jewish settlements cannot expand.
---- Former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin
Is something going to happen in the days, weeks and months ahead that will make Jews flock to Israel in large numbers?
ReplyDeleteAlaska,
ReplyDeleteShe never said "in large numbers". In any event, the situation today is that Jews are flocking to Israel (to live, to visit, to return home from trips abroad, etc). There's no reason to assume that this situation will change.
Therefore, her statement that "More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead" is a reasonable predication. ("More and more" does not necessarily imply "in greater numbers". If 5 people come today, and 5 more are scheduled to come tomorrow, you can say that "more will be coming tomorrow". If 5 people are scheduled to come per day for the forseeable future, you can say that "more and more people will be coming". The repetition of the word "more" is a rhetorical device, and does not change the meaning of the word, any more than "very, very" means anything different from "very".)
I don't generally like Sarah Palin, but her support of Israel is absolute and unwavering.
ReplyDeleteThe adversity we are facing as pro-Israel advocates is being reflected in the people who come out to support us....
ReplyDeleteAlaka is correct in the 'teima' here.
ReplyDeleteI think Sarah Palin is great.
But her statement implies that something is going to 'change' I didinot understand what she meant by that.
I think what she said was clumsily worded and we shouldn't look for diyukim in it. But while Palin's English may not have been so good, the thought behind the quote is of course right on target.
ReplyDeletedoonesbury,
ReplyDeleteIIRC, she's unemployed right now. She's famous for running for an office which "is not worth a pitcher of warm spit". What exactly is it that you think she's privy to? She's very pro-Israel and right wing, and was speaking in hyperbole, that's it.
I do not know that she knows anything.
ReplyDeleteIt would just a very wierd thing to say.
I just wonder what she meant by it and I haven't a clue.
It might be just as Shlomo said - it was clumsily worded. i.e. she intended to say Jews have been flocking in recent years to Israel - from France, Argentina, and will continue to do so in the immediate future. (if this was her intention then it shows an enormous interest and knowledge on her part in the welfare of Jews around the world, very uncommon for your average gentile. Any Jew should want very much for a person like her to grow in infuence on the public scene.)
