A minister is shutting his own ministry

The Ministry of Communications has been avoiding a shutdown for over a decade already. The Finance Ministry has wanted to close it, considering it not necessary to stand on its own as a ministry, and open in its place some sort of organization that would be responsible for oversight of telecom and television together.

The proposal has been rejected for over a decade by Ministers of Communication, each because no minister would ever want his ministry shut down, effectively putting himself out of a powerful job in the government.

Moshe Kachlon, the current Minister of Communications (Likud), has decided he will do what is right for the public and not what is good for himself. He has announced he will be shutting down his ministry and establishing this alternative arrangement for oversight of all communication issues.

  2. Quick !! Someone call Hatzala !! There is emergency treatment needed ! A politician acted in the publics best interest, in direct contrast to his own best interest.

I can think of only 3 possibilities.

    1) He will be getting some kind of upgrade VERY soon - and he knows about it - so he doesnt care

    2) Its a purim prank and doesnt mean it at all

    3) Someone in the public gave money to Kupat ha'ir in hope that he will make this decision -- and so it happened !

  3. This shows us how the only political hope for good government right now comes from the Likud "rebels" and others of their ilk.
Not from the right wing parties that are irrelevant and not from Manhigut that hasn't been able to elect a single MK as they are seen as being involved in a hostile takeover of the party.
The only hope is if right-winger al join and vote Likud and support the good ethical people that aren't seen as Kachniks.
This is all the more reason why Bibis attempt to artificially increse the Likud and the "right" by bringing in Mofaz and friends should be thwarted.

  5. Rafi, can you please invite Yoni R to do a guest post on when a Kupat HaIr reference is funny and when it is not? It's all about timing.
