The Ben-Gurion website to check flight arrivals only works with internet Explorer. To me that seems like a major failure. In this day and age to run a major website that does not work with Firefox or Chrome? And to still refer to minimum requirements of Internet Explorer 5.5 (rather than 7 or 8)?
In twitter talk we would say #BenGurion #FAIL
works for me in firefox 3.6 in hebrew and english
ReplyDeletedoes not work in ff for me and I absolutely HATE that. Another example of Israeli internet stupidity
ReplyDeleteAs IE was the first and in many ways remains the best browser for foreign language support, at the same level of Windows foreign language support, Israeli IT developers consider IE to be the only browser used in Israel.
ReplyDeleteFor the Hebrew speaking surfer, that is likely the case. (That they're using only IE.)
That this mindset would bleed into their English site as well is no shock.
I find that pretty much all my Hebrew sites (bank, credit card, kupat cholim) either ONLY work, or at least work best in IE.
ReplyDeleteEgged seems to be the exception.
As a delevoper, I can tell you that there are certain things that are much easier to develop for IE than other browsers. Generally, we try to develop for all browsers, but in one instance we needed to do something which was actually impossible in the other browsers.
ReplyDeleteAs a web developer I can say that IE is the browser that gives me hives.
ReplyDeleteFirefox, I love it, I practically live in the Firebug debugger.
Chrome, fast as all get out and totally rocks.
IE: Gives me nightmares, i feel like the way it deals with HTML/CSS never mind javascript have nothing to do with what the specs say it should do.
Yea I really hate it with a passion!
I agree with Rafi, and believe that Apple has the best security system, and should be considered for us MAC users. IE and MS have to CONSTANTLY be updating and protecting their security, because the hackers are fixated on IE and MS.
ReplyDeleteAnd one must remember that 'windows' came about because they copied, yes copied, APPLE's highly intuitive system. Soooooooooo much easier to use.
I think it's mainly a kickback i$$ue, because Apple is priced higher because of its superbiquitous (i.e. check your dictionary)
with bank sites I am used to needing IE. also some shopping sites. the ben gurion thing seems like it is a simple query for a flight listing and should not be limited to IE.
ReplyDeleteIt is because they were using IE in 1948. If it was good enough then, it must be good enough now.
ReplyDeleteThe Ben Guerion website it not always reliable. We once made plans to pick up family from the airport. We got a phone call that the flight was still on the ground 10 minutes after the website reported it had taken off.
I'm finding more and more that Israeli sites work just fine with Firefox, including my bank. Chrome makes me nervous, never used it.
ReplyDeleteNeshama, I checked the dictionary. There's no such word as superbiquitous.
