I dont know which is sillier - the Egyptians getting all upset at Israel for shark attacks they say were directed by the Zionists, or the Egyptians getting all upset at Israel over what any one private person says, let alone a supermodel. Supermodels have a reputation about not being the brightest bulbs in the pack, and unless that is different with Egyptian supermodels (do they even exist?), I am not sure why anyone, including the Egyptians, pay attention and take seriously anything said by a supermodel.
Bar Rafaeli, one of the top rated Israeli supermodels, has raised the tensions between Egypt and Israel when she recently made an offhanded comment about a possible photo shoot.
Rafaeli was asked about potentially going to Egypt for a shoot. Her response was that she has been to Egypt already and would never go back. She said Egypt is a primitive place. The issues she had with Egypt were basically that they have camels walking down the road. She is ok, she says, with Israel where you see chickens everywhere you go, but camels? I mean, what civilized country allows camels to roam freely??!!
If that isn't a silly and benign enough comment, the source of it was not exactly an Israeli diplomat but Bar Rafaeli, a private citizen and a supermodel who should basically be ignored when she says anything (just like any private person should say whatever they want, for the most part, and not be the cause of a country getting its underwear all wadded up into a bunch).
Yet Egypt is making a big deal of it. They are insulted, and one state newspaper even suggested it is a Zionist plot to harm Egyptian tourism, just as the shark attacks were..
See what Bar Rafaeli actually said, and how she said it in an offhand manner.
I think Egypt, and Hosni Mubarak, have gone a bit off the deep end. I just hope they are not so far out that they are swimming in shark territory..
Maybe the Egyptians really are primitive, not realizing that this is not a person who needs to be listened to.
ok,first of all im egyptian and and about claiming that the mossad are to blamed about the shark attack i find it really stupid and most of egyptian didnt belive that claim it was some stupid minister who said that.but sirously about this whatever her mname is model im acually offended to say that about my country just because she saw camels in the back of the truck like sirously.imagine she said that about your country and tell me how you feel.you never critsize a country unless you lived in it.sorry for writting too long but i just to make my point clear and yes we have supermodels
ReplyDeleteit was a stupid thing for her to say (you see camels in Israel too, depending on where you drive to, and anyway why do camels make a country primitive???)
ReplyDeletebut anyway, she is a nobody and supermodels are known to be fairly ditzy (I dont know if she is or is not), and there words should not be influential. for sure not influential enough to create a diplomatic stir...
She should have gotten public abuse for it - nowadays everyone famous/glamorous knows they have the public ear and should treat it as a responsibility. But yes the Egyptians shouldn't get all broken up over it but instead call her stupid or the like.
ReplyDeleteImagine if someone said that about India - the cows are "holy" so they roam freely and it's quite ridiculous. The national reps would probably say something like whatever famous person was visiting had no clue about Indian culture and lifestyle.
