In protest of the upcoming opening of the light rail train system in Jerusalem, a group decided to climb the "strings" of the harp shaped Calatrava Bridge in Jerusalem.
Just to clarify, on the radio they said Greenpeace activists were protesting the proposal to open a coal burning electricity plant in Ashkelon by climbing the bridge.
David - I dont know anything about the group you mention, and I dont know if this is a related group or not, but it is not the same protest. this is a local Jerusalem protest.
Looks like a new fad. This is what I heard about: Here's the picture: http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/IGallery.aspx?GalleryID=260&Index=0 Caption: Greenpeace activists climb on a light rail bridge at the entrance to Jerusalem, Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011. Five Greenpeace activists have hoisted themselves up the cords of a high suspension bridge at Jerusalem's entrance, unveiling a banner calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt a planned coal-fired power plant.
I'm sorry, but why would someone protest the opening of a light rail? Is this some weird form of Jerusalem Syndrome?
ReplyDeletetheir point of protest, if I understood it correctly, is their concern regarding increased pollution and congestion.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that they want to demonstrate their basic lack of understanding of the effects of public transportation on pollution and congenstion.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention that these kinds of protests tend to tie up traffic, leading to increased pollution and congestion.

ReplyDeleteIs this another group?
My father lives right next to it and shot a video of these guys.
