Back in June, which in Israel is like a lifetime considering how fast the news moves here, the army became the center of controversy as the IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz was asked about the official text for the IDF memorial service for the fallen soldiers.
The question was whether it should say "God will remember" or if it should say "the people of Israel will remember". Gantz responded with the official position saying "God will remember" is the officially sanctioned text. Gantz's response upset many and led to the wrath of the media. Gantz responded by establishing a committee to investigate the issue and recommend a final decision as to what should be said.
The committee has not yet finished it's work, but they have announced that they are going to recommend changing the text of the service back to the original "Yizkor Am Yisrael" - The People of Israel Shall Remember. (source: Haaretz)
