According to Srugim, Rav Efrati was asked why nobody is coming out in support of them in the fight.
Rav Efrati's response was:
In the ashkenazi exile we were influenced with impure influences of the Catholic Christianity. The exile caused, by its very nature, a disconnect from our holiness and it allowed a bit of foreign culture to enter, a culture that is opposite of our Torah.
What is happening in Bet Shemesh is witness to the fact that in a small and fringe section of radical haredi Judaism remnants of the catholic culture got in and remained, remnants of heresy and idol worship.
Hatred of normal life, fear of dealing with life's challenges, battling against science, the trend of living in isolation, the stress of mitzvos between Man and God at the expense of the mitzvos between Man and Man, fear of normal marital partnership - these are all signs of christianity that have seeped into the world of radical religion.
We must fight against them and against their religion. There is no Judaism here, rather there is foolishness, fear and heresy. Would the Rambam have been happy with them? Would the Ramchal have been happy with them? Would the Chafetz Chaim have been happy with them? Certainly they would have denounced them for their ugly behavior...Rav Efrati goes on to provide words of support and encouragement. I particularly enjoyed the way he negated them by explaining them to be remnants of the Christian influence.

ReplyDeleteI hate to say it, but this describes a much larger segment of the community than just the Kannoim.
when did rav efrati become the RY of shvut yisrael?
ReplyDeletei have no idea. thats how the srugim article profiles him
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the saying, "taking the Jews out of Galus is difficult, but taking the Galus out of the Jews is even more difficult."
ReplyDeleteI believe that an Isolationist lifestyle does not make room for HaShem to intervene in your life. Daily life and its challenges is the way to bring goodness and holiness into the world. One must engage with life to effect change and allow the Geula to take place.
Actually I think that they act more like radical muslims than catholics.
