Quote Of The Day
As far as I am concerned, Koniak can register himself on his identity card as a monkey or an an extraterrestrial alien from outer space... From my point of view, it does not add or detract anything. It is his personal concern and it does not bother me... The court's decision actually strengthens the feeling that it is part of the small clique of "no religion". I would like to see tomorrow somebody request to erase from his identity card the section of nationality, as someone who wants to declare himself "no nationality".
--- MK Yisroel Eichler (UTJ)
Eichler said this in response to the announcement that Israeli Author Yoram Koniak's request to register his identity as "no religion" was approved by the court.
if it doesn't concern him, why did the religious parties always fight this option in the past? is eichler saying that this struggle was wrong or is he simply trying to look like a tough guy, having lost?
ReplyDeleteregardless of the approach used in the past, the fight is clearly lost and a new approach is required, considering the new circumstances.
ReplyDeleteb'seder gamur. i just find eichler's comment to be the type of thing that a seven year old screams when he finds out that he wasn't invited to the neighbor's party.
