Banning Distribution Of Mishpacha

Somebody sent to me a copy of a letter sent by a group of rabbonim to Mishpacha. The rabbonim signed on the letter are from various haredi neighborhoods/communities of Bet Shemesh.
The letter says:
To the Administrators of Mishpacha Newspaper,
We have already expressed our intent that you should not distribute in our city of Bet Shemesh your weekly newspaper that was prohibited to be read by the gedolim.
And now we have heard that you are publishing a new additional newspaper that is being distributed for free in haredi neighborhoods.
We request that you not distribute it in our cit, and will tell those involved in distribution that they should not distribute it here, and not put it in mailboxes and not near the stores.
Signed...

I find it interesting that they would go this route of trying to convince Mishpacha to not distribute their newspaper and magazine in Bet Shemesh, rather than just telling their flock to not read it.

  2. The signatures on this paper look completely fake, like having been through a bad double scan.
    Where did you get this?

  3. I received it as a pdf and converted it to jpg. It was sent to me by a good source

  4. Rav Perlstein has a cool signature. Looks like a secret creative type in the wrong vocation stifling creativity and free thought.

  5. Rav Perlstein is a brilliant man and fabulous speaker and has some amazing original divray Torah on Tanach - in pshat. He quotes widely from Ibn Ezra and Radak by heart.

  6. How come Rav Malinowitz isn't on this?

If his partners Rav Kornfeld and Rav Davidovitch saw fit to sign it, why is Rav Malinowitz breaking ranks?

  7. The reason they are sending it to mishpacha and not their own people, is because their own people have no problem reading Mishpacha!

Why do people think this has any backing from the people who signed it, and why do people think there is any credibility left in these types of "wars"?

    1. Anon -what do you mean - they sign it but don't back it? Do you mean their sigs were forged? Never heard that before about "low level" rabbonim. Vby low level I mean local rather than national, or communal rather than gadol

  8. All I can say is-we need more rabbis like Rav David Bar-hayim more than ever......

  9. A letter came out in Kiryat Sefer banning Mishpacha's distribution, also in the name of a lot of "low level" Rabbanim. Then a letter from the Av Beis Din - if it was real. On Tuesday we found copies torn up in our garbage. I pulled out a few and matched them back up.

I am beyond horrified that such low politics has seeped through our gates here in KS.

Mishpacha is THE best read for datiim/chareidim

    1. Best read" is irrelevant, as it is subjecgtive. Different strokes for different folks. I know some people who don't consikder mishpacha to be a haredi paper, considering some of the things they write. Others obviously consider it very haredi. Personally I like it

    2. Btw, bet shemesh had this as well when the hashavua came out with a local paper and chadash, the already existing local haredi paper campaigned and signed rabbonim against it

  10. I don't understand it - given that there's now a wall-to-wall banning of Mishpacha by our gedolim, and also by our local haredi community rabbis, why would any G-d fearing Jew touch "Mishpacha"?

Are these people not in fear and awe of our gedolim? Do they not respect their own rabbis?

    What's wrong with these people?

  11. This all started because that "other" paper objected to the distribution of the Mishpacha daily in "their" neighborhoods! Competition became a war. If one steps back to take a look at all these separate incidents in the Haredi world, it appears like an unraveling of sorts.

  12. I would venture a guess to say that people don't trust that these rabbonim are being honest about the issues. People think they vare biased, or toeing a party line, or looking out for someone bor something elses interests, or even that they are getting pressured or paid off in some way. It says a lot of bad about a lot of aspects of the style of society

  13. You all have it wrong. Mishpacha put out this letter themselves because they know that as soon as they are banned, more people will subscribe!

  14. Wasn't there a rabbinic directive months ago for the chadash to stop house to house distribution? I for one am furious that this was not adhered to as I am constantly grabbing that piece of trash out of my kids' hands and burying it deep in the garbage.

  15. I see that Pearlstein still signs himself with his self-apointed title of "mara d'asra" of RBSA. Rav Kornfeld, on the other hand, at least has the honesty to only call himself Rav of Kehilas HaGra.

BTW, this is about the weekly free edition of Mishpacha, not the one sold in stores. It's a classic case of certain groups wanting to control who can be the messanger so that they can control the message.

    ReplyDelete
  16. anon - not exactly. it references a previou request about not selling the weekly, and then applies it to the new free edition as well. I would guess that just like they obviously didnt listen about the paid mag they also wont listen regarding the free

  17. All the people that accept people like Rabbis Kornfeld and Perlstein as your rabbis - I'm just curious - is this what you want - a rabbi deciding what reading matter you will and will not have access to? And what in the world gives these rabbis the right to speak on behalf of Ramat Beit Shemesh? If, tomorrow, they decide that Mekor Rishon shouldn't be sold in RBS, or that Connections shouldn't be distributed, is that what's going to happen? Is that what we signed up for when we moved to RBS? Not me, that's for sure.

  18. I hope that all of those starry eyed followers of Rabbi Kornfeld will now realize that he is just a part of the problem as the kanoim.

He wants this to be a charedi only city just as much as they do.

  19. At one time we considered moving to ramat beit Shemesh but I am very happy we decided not to. Iam amazed that Rabbis are eager to sign a ban on a charedi newspaper but on the bigger issues in the city there is total silence. This reminds of the expression my obm used to say people make mountains out of mole hills. his job was to take mountains and make mole hills out of them. Although all these Rabonim are charedi I am sure some of their followers have seen this post it and therefore I have to believe it is not a forgery. Rafi keep up your good work.

  20. I agree with BK.

If this same group of rabbonim were to put their righteous indignation and protests towards the sikrikim then this would be a Kiddush H and, practically, might get them to alter their vile behavior.

Of course, these rabbonim can't, because this would be seen as in-fighting, and so the chilonim and their DL cohorts would capitalize on that (see Rav Malinowitz' rambling explanation of why he won't condemn criminality in the Hareidi camp).

What total nonsense - these rabbonim are only to happy to in-fight. What else is a ban on Mishpacha magazine.

    Duh.

I think this letter crosses the line from stupid to evil.
What greater bizayon of talmidei chachamim is there than to make a pronouncement in their names, that is stam nahreshkeit, will be ignored by most frum yidden, and is probably financially motivated.
Yiddishkeit is becoming a joke chas v'sholom!

  22. to be fair, they didnt publicize this (as far as I know). these werent pashkevilim hanging in the streets or passed around shul. they sent it to mishpacha to stop them without anyone knowing. somebody else leaked it.

  23. on bhol.co.il they are reporting that a number of rabbonim are protesting that their names were signed on a letter against the mishpacha. I didnt see any of the names of this letter protesting so I guess thaey agree that mishapacha should be banned Again it is a wonder to me that the biggest problem in RBS that the mishpacha comes to people's doors and that Rabbonim have to issue a ban.

  24. BK - it is really two separate things. These rabbonim are not banning Mishpacha. They are telling Mishpacha that based on the ban imposed by the gedolim Mishpacha should not be delivered to our neighborhood.

Another issue is whether the gedolim actually signed or not. these rabbonim wont get involved in that, as the Yated is running the show.

  25. I think the ban is only on the Hebrew edition, not the English

  26. Yossi - How come Rav Malinowitz isn't on this?

You can never know why or why not. Who knows, maybe somehow the publishers of Mishpacha help support Rav M's shul? Or maybe some other connection - family, friends, yeshiva together, etc.

  27. or maybe they did not ask him.
or maybe he sees no reason to ban Mishpacha.

  28. I am not charedi and I came across this item by "chance" (not a big chance).
What puzzles me is the name "Mischpacha", this is the Hebrew translation of "la famiglia", a strong catholic and anti-Semitish and anti-Jewish Italian weekly. They are just ant-Jewish, whether Charedi, Chilony, Chabad, Satmar or Meretz. Anti anything Jewish, Israelish and else.
Although of Polish descent, my mameloshen is Italian, being born there and went to school there, and albeit 40 year in Israel I am still informed about the Italkiim and their problems with their ebvironment.
So is Mishpachah a kind of a Jewish Catholic paper?
