In the UK Hassidic Coats Are The Rage

I see nothing wrong with this, but I do find it funny and interesting.

Kate Hooker, a designer in the UK, was in Israel over a decade ago. While in Israel she bought a hassidic jacket in a second-hand shop. The jacket had been made for a 14 year old hassidic boy. She thought it was so great, it fit her so well, that she had it replicated, and then she marketed it.

Hooker even says that her version of this coat is Kate Middleton's favorite coat. The princess Kate Middleton.

I am trying to imagine the hassidic mens/boys jacket this was copied from, but somehow I cannot picture it...

  1. Supposedly Boy George originally bought his trademark hat in חסידישער היטין type store in the East End of London - or at least that's what he said. I also recall reading that Sid Vicious said that he wanted to buy (some kind of Chassidishe clothing, but I can't recall what) in New York, but the proprietor refused to sell it to him.

  2. Just to be pedantic, her name is not "Princess Kate Middleton" its "HRH Catherine Duchess of Cambridge".

Also I am unsure exactly what about these coats is particularly Hassidc, it looks like more or less standard coat of that length

  3. So now HRH Catherine Duchess of Cambridge (or Princess Kate Middleton, whichever you prefer) is wearing a Hookers coat?

(OK, now I can grow up...)
