More than 6 months ago there was a news report about how some Haredi activists were upset about some cultural affairs, including women singers, that had taken place under city sponsorship in the Mahane Yehuda shuk. At the time they threatened that they would abandon the Mahane Yehuda shuk and would open their own "mehadrin shuk" elsewhere.
After not hearing any more about it for 6 months, it looks like the idea is actually going to be moving forward. According to a news report in Ynetnews, they have finally located an appropriate location for the new shuk. They have located a 10 dunam plot of land between Sanhedria and Har Hotzvim that would be appropriate for the new shuk.
According to activists, stall owners in Mahane Yehuda have already said they would open a banch in the new haredi shuk. Stall owners do not seem, for the most part, to regret the possible loss of business due to the cultural events - they say the cultural events brought in so much business that it was worth it.
