There was a very special siyum haShas in Yeshivat Shaalvim this past week. A hesder yeshiva student about to be drafted into the IDF, finished Shas and made his siyum the evening before his scheduled visit to the IDF Draft Board. (source: Srugim)
There are many ways to prepare for entry into the army. There are physical preparations to be made. There are emotional preparations to be made. And there are spiritual preparations to be made.
I can't think of a better preparation, for a religious soldier, than what this young man did. Though, a cynic would say, let's see him in 18 months after he comes out of the army, rather than what he did as a yeshiva bochur before he was drafted! That's ok, as I also don't know too many yeshiva guys who have finished Shas by the age of 20 years old!

I can't think of any non charedi cynic who would say such a thing.
ReplyDeleteName of upcoming soldier and the two individuals on his side, PLEASE?
ReplyDeleteI do not know why the link does not work. in the Srugim article, it says the soldiers name is Meier Turgeman. The rabbis by his side, (I dont know them and am only taking the info from the article) are the rosh yeshivot of Shaalvim, Rabbis Yehezkal Jacoboson and Aryeh Hendler
ReplyDeleteEver notice that most Haradim seem to think that all it takes is one drop of the outside world for someone to get up and leave their world. Wonder what that says about them.
ReplyDeleteEver notice that some people take potshots at an entire group of people, even in posts that really have nothing to do with them at all?
ReplyDeleteThe Rabbi on our left is Rav Yechezkel Yakovson, the Rosh Hayeshiva, and the one on our right Rav Aryeh Hendler, the Sgan Rosh Hayeshiva.
