The pashkevil says, in the name of the gedolim, that the tragedies are because of:
- people having iPhones, blackberries and other such devices, along with unfiltered internet access.
- not protecting our kids enough from the Internet and movies
So, because I or you use Internet, that poor family had to go up in flames.
Natan Zahavi, a radio broadcaster, attacked this pashkevil, quoting it on air and then saying "I dont understand, rabbonim that are considered great leaders, shepherds to their flock, are so depraved.. they suffer so much from thousands of years of mental decay? sometimes, the fanatical and stupidity of religion, - they have no boundaries."
Zahavi then also attacked Kuti Sabag and Bet Shemesh saying " I saw in the headlines that now Bet Shemesh is on the map. But Bet Shemesh was already on the map for a long time, because of stupidity, idiocy, violence, religious fanaticism and discrimination against Ethiopians. Sabag represents exactly what that city is - a dark and primitive city, excluding a small group of residents that are good and not at fault. Kuti is appropriate for Bet Shemesh and also fitting to win the "pach hagadol" (play on words of big brother and big garbage can)." (source: Globes)
I wonder what "good people" he was referring to, but the rest of his statement is awfully vicious.
Regarding the pashkevil, his comments are harsh and biting, though not totally untrue. Can anybody know why they died? Did they really get burned up in flames in their sleep because I was using the Internet? Is that really what the remaining family members need to hear about the dead children they are mourning?

Yes one would wish at least the gedolim should put out another pashkevil encouraging families not to leave young children at home unattended, and to check that their electrical systems are up to code.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad and shouldn't have happened to anyone, but to not learn any practical lessons is just sad. As if it only matters what we do spiritually, and physical hishtadlus is irrelevant. I don't even think that will be true in y'mos hamoshiach.
I wonder if it were the gadol's home that burned down, would we see the same reaction?
ReplyDeleteOf course it's stupid, but anyone who really believes these pashkevilim are actually put out by gedolim are themselves suffering from mental decay.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's all obvious, really. You can see the midda k'negged midda as clear as day - I mean, the sin of using iPhones and the Internet obviously leads to the tragic deaths of children. I'm surprised they didn't also pin it on not enough tznius.
ReplyDeleteThe best part about this linkage is that all our troubles are because of those other wicked people, who don't do what we do, and do what we don't. No need for me to do any cheshbon hanefesh, because G-d knows we are perfect and live in an ideal society, guided by infalliable, omniscient gedolim such as those who wrote this pashkevil.
There are those who might suggest that there's a clearer and more obvious linkage between sin'as chinam and bloodshed (such as the Netziv in his introduction to Sefer Bereishis) - but that is obviously a false and dangerous suggestion, since there might be an implication that we have shortcomings and need to change something about ourselves and the way we view our fellow Jews, which is obviously impossible since we are The Only True Path of Authentic Judaism and everybody else is wrong. And we know this because our gedolim say so, and they are infalliable and omniscient. Unlike your gedolim who are not.
Wow - these people who write the pashkevil sound SWEET and WONDERFUL. Can we RECRUIT more of them to come to our city? Tax-free - don't worry, you consume city services, other suckers will cover you !!!
