If Rav Amar and MK Moshe Gafni are right, Israel is headed for a major disaster. Literally.
Rav Amar said that the earthquake in Israel the other day was due to the attack on the Torah world, the attempt to stop them from learning Torah. He specifically said it was because of the criticism made against Torah scholars, against the Torah and against the learners.
MK Gafni said, at the Hamodia conference, that we can actually see that ever since they began attacking the Torah learners, the Israeli economy has turned on a downward trend.
If they are right, Israel is headed for a very seriously major disaster..

I am curious. Does anybody know anyone who finds these sorts of statements to give them chizuk?
ReplyDeleteI don't know anyone in my life, and I'm curious if I just hang out in the wrong circles or not.
Normally when Rabbi's come out and give reasons for disasters or give predictions for the future it gives me a sour feeling and I hold it to be 'sheker'. But in this instance I think what Rav Amar and Gafni said could have a good bet. I don't think they should say it though because it gives people a bad feeling and definitely not chizuk.
ReplyDeleteThe message that I would give is Hashem loves us and wants us to do good and to be good. He doesn't want to harm us, in fact He everything He does is for our good and we just have to try to strengthen out Emunah and look for Hashem's hand in everything. Don't worry, be happy :)
Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman (on the way to EY)
Gafni is a political hack, so there's really little value or meaning in anything he says. However, there is a disaster brewing when respected religious leaders start spouting inanities like this.
ReplyDeleteWhen will these guys stop talking rubbish and get back to Torah? Maybe the disasters are punishment for the Haredi intransigence and the downturn in the economy (sic, I haven't noticed it myself) is God working to force them to go get a job.
ReplyDeleteI agree entirely with them but not superficially. The whole attack on the Haredim and Orthodox Judaism has engulfed so much attention, as if it were the most important thing concerning Israel.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, even if criticism is misguided, there should still be some underlying spiritual message the Haredim should themselves be reading from this. It's too bad the evil people with the tabloid Israeli media are making so much noise, they are not seeing that the Haredim are increasingly getting drafted and joining the workforce. Actually, if they actually did see this, they would be very scared.
Yes, the major disaster is stupid Rabbis making stupid pronouncements causing people to become more and more skeptical about religion. Great job Amar and Gafni.
