Quote Of The Day
If the speech like a leader such as Olmert was before us, believe me I would oppose him. But I miss him. That we don't have a prime minister, we don't have a prime minister [like Olmert] who would bang on the table and say that there is the Nation of Israel, there is the State of Israel, there are different communities, there are beliefs, there is conscience, there is a way. For cheap populism you are destroying the country, you are harming it. And [Olmert] would bang on the table and I would want to see if there was not a majority.... Whenever the Likud is the ruling party this happens to us...-- MK Moshe Gafni (UTJ)

i'll take statements about gafni's demand for a multicultural society when he is willing to say "sure, the secular can marry how they like; after all there are different communities". until then it is simply an MK demanding privileges for his community.
ReplyDeleteThe translation is incoherent. Where's the original Hebrew?
ReplyDeleteI recommend listening to the interview with former MK Meir Porush on Galei Tzahal yesterday. It begins at the 8:00-minute mark of the July 9 (yesterday) program.

Some highlights -
1 - How can Bibi do this to us when we're in the driving seat (at the wheel) in the government?
2 - None of us (Charedim) have our own opinions. Everything we do is based on what the gedolim tell us to do.
3 - Why look at us? The Arabs don't serve either.
4 - Quoting Rav Shach to the effect that if they don't let us learn Torah here, we'll go to Galut and do it there.
Number 3 is the most repulsive and is a pretty good indication as to how they (don't) see themselves as a part of the Am HaYoshev B'Tzion.
