One of the only things I miss about the old country is tubs of cheap cream store bought ice cream. In Israel, there seems to be only cheap-cheap ice cream or what they call 'premium' ice cream so they can charge higher.
Had you ever thought of making your own ice cream?
No problems with any perceived lack of kashrut: you can ensure that only halav Yisrael is used. You will have no problems with the product melting on the way back from the store because there will be no need to go to the store in the first place. You can always be assured of having the flavors you prefer - in fact, you could devise your own flavors.
And - probably most important of all for you - you can control the price!
No word yet from the US State Dept as to whether they recognize Israel as the ice cream capitol. That's part of the final status negotiations.

It's amazing how good the Israeli gelato is at the gelato shops and how bad the ice cream generally is at the supermarket!
