Itzik Elrov, the haredi fellow from Bnei Braq who led the "cottage cheese protest" against Tnuva, uploaded the picture above. It is of a haredi woman in Bnei Braq shortly before Shabbos rummaging through the trash and picking out some tomatoes. The image has created some ruckus about social policies and the level of destitution in some places...

But the woman's clothing looks extremely neat and well-kept, certainly not the least bit worn or frayed. And she's carrying a shopping bag that looks new. Why jump to the conclusion that she's destitute?
ReplyDeleteyou don't see too many residents of herziliya pituach going through the public trash.
DeleteYou can check out Itzik Elrov's facebook page, where he uploaded the picture. he saw it happen and it seems that for some reason, perhaps that she was rummaging through vegetables in the trash, that she was poor.
ReplyDeleteI guess you have proved that poor does not mean one must look dirty and ragged.
What about poor does not mean one must go to work to address the situation?
