Will Haredi parties be disqualified over lack of female candidates?

Will the Haredi parties be disqualified from running in the upcoming elections? It is not likely, but some people are trying to get them disqualified anyway.

Unnamed "womens rights" groups have filed a petition with the election board to disqualify the haredi parties due to their lack of inclusion of any women on their Knesset lists. "Hadarat Nashim".

There is no law, that I am aware of, that obligates any specific party to list a woman, or women  as Knesset candidates, but when the two main haredi parties, and now some more minor ones as well (though Rabbi Amsalem is supposedly listing two women in his list of candidates) have never included a woman in their lists, it is clear it is due to discriminatory practice and not due to simply not having found one to include.

The election board said they will not consider the petition until after Thursday, as Thursday is the final day for the various parties to submit their lists, and only then will the board be able to analyze the lists and consider the issue.

I don't believe the board will disqualify the haredi parties over this, but it sure is an interesting twist. I wonder how they will get around it.

  1. They should also disqualify them for failing to include any Arabs, homosexuals or disabled people. Not to mention Leftists (another minority group).

  2. I find it annoying that when I come to your blog, there is a recording blaring in my face and no way to shut it off! Is this a new gimmick? Why?

  6. I encountered the same phenomenon. One of the embedded videos seems to start immediately upon opening the page, perhaps?

  8. They just need to put a few women at the end of their list. If their numbers 25-30 actually make it in, then undoubtedly mashiach is here and the knesset will close, replaced by the sanhedrin which will be composed of only the male members on the list.
