It doesn't work like that. It's not so easy. They successfully fought off the competition, but now they still have a tough battle ahead.
Rav Ovadiah is calling on everyone to include in their davening next week the prayer of Avinu Malkeinu, and to specifically request "annul the consult of our enemies" who wish to annul the Torah learning.
(source: Kikar)
the joke is told of the yekke who came home from shul one day 10 seconds later than usual. When his wife asked what happened that delayed him, he explained that davening was longer because they had begun praying for rain.
Davening is going to be a bit longer next week, at least in Sephardi shuls if not also in some ashkenazi shuls, so adjust your schedules accordingly.

"One would have thought that with Amnon Yitzchak's party and Rav Amsalem's party not passing the minimum threshold for the Knesset Rav Ovadiah would be happy and all the problems will have been solved."
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone think that? Their votes went to waste and if you believe that those same voters would have voted Shas, we probably would have had a clearer picture of the next coalition. Now that Shas and UTJ are expendable and unnecessary to the next coalition, the Charedi world is afraid of the outcomes of a Likud-Lapid-Bennet coalition. All of which are pro-draft, lapid being the most extreme of them.
here is where we differ:
ReplyDeleteI do not believe in voting for small parties. they are sectorial, they are usually one-issue or two-issue parties, without the overall picture in of Israel in mind. I believe in the big parties.
That being said, in the current system that has small parties running, I do not believe a vote for a small party is a wasted vote, even if ti does not pass the threshold. I believe it is a dangerous vote, becaus eit promotes instability in government by giving power to small parties, but it is not a wasted vote. I believe if a person sees his ideas and needs aligned with any specific party, no matter how small it is, I say he need not compromise his beliefs and vote for one that surely will pass the threshold but doesnt really represent me.. If someone is going to vote for a small party, I think he should vote for the party that he believes most closely represents him and should not be concerned with whether or not the party will pass.
