a truck delivering turkeys to a slaughterhouse up north for Zoglovek was involved in an accident. The accident killed and injured many of the birds.. here is some video to see how they were treated. The uploader of the video calls it a holocaust of turkeys.
Baruch Hashem, for better and for worse. When there is a need in shamayim for neshamot, better that the gezera is fed with animals instead of humans.
I've worked several times during the nights when we'd send the turkeys to the slaughterhouse. You are supposed to stuff as many as possible into the cages but definitely not to the point that they will get wounded or suffocate. It really sucks for the farmer to grow tens of thousands of heads for a few months and then have attrition at the very end. Nowawdays, it is mostly non-Jewish guys who do the shipping, and a big hastle to redo it again, maybe these guys won't even get paid by their Arab boss either. The wounded are also not kosher for slaughter.
"non-Jewish guys," you mean arabs? Who else is doing this work? Those poor turkeys. It's awful to be so mean to them, even if they are going to be shechted. Animals dealing with animals. Awful.
What do those girls filming think when they are at there dinner table? Do they start crying knowing what that poor turkey went through before he got to her plate. Mabey they should start a group that monitors against the cruelty of vegetables. Don't they realize how horrible it is when a carrot gets ripped out of his home by his hair, and tossed in the back of a pick up truck, carted off to be sold, and end up being quartered, while alive, and then fried in boiling oil. The cruelty, it's horrible!!
In any event, the turkeys are rendered unkosher not just because of the accident that could have cause trauma to the animals, but just seeing the way the handlers deal with them they could easily break limbs even if there was not an accident.
