It is especially questionable how a person who has lived his entire life in Givatayim, never purchased a home in Jerusalem, never paid taxes in Jerusalem, and never educated his children in Jerusalem thinks he can compete for the position of mayor of Jerusalem. Even more questionable is the fact that the designated number 2 man, Dudi Amsalem, is also not from Jerusalem but lives in Maaleh Adumim.
It is distressing to see that people believe they can force onto the people of Jerusalem a person from Givatayim in a political deal by Lieberman, Deri and Haredi activists..
The positive trend in the city cannot be stopped. We cannot go back to the goverance of activists and political deals. We believe that the residents of Jerusalem will choose a Jerusalemite who sees the strengthening of the city and his life's task and not as a political work arrangement, in order to continue the positive trend today, tomorrow, and forever.
-- Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat
