Translation:
A long discussion in the special committee for making the "sharing the burden" law just finished..
It is not simple. From one side, we are four MKs that served in the Paratroopers unit and are not able to come to terms with people avoiding service: Elazar Stern, Ofer Shelach, Motti Yogev, and myself. On the other side are MKs from the Haredi parties who feel an obligation to protect the lifestyle of the people they represent.
We are debating it in one language, but the gap between our outlooks at this stage seem unbridgeable.
For example: MK Arial Attias explained to us that a yeshiva bachur that gets drafted to the army "will have difficulty finding a shidduch". I respond to him that also a secular young man who falls in battle will have difficulty finding a shidduch... MK Moshe Gafni then screams "you cannot decree on the community a decree that the community cannot handle". And I say to him: "the public that cannot handle the previous decree is first of all the secular and religious public that can no longer carry the yoke of army service all by itself." And on and on, while head of the committee Ayelet Shaked tries to arrive at a compromise among the sides.

We have to continue with the historic repairs until they are completed, and we must remain sensitive to the concerns of the Haredim.

To be continued on Sunday..
