If you have not yet guessed who the smuggler is (alleged, of course), it is Moshe Leon.
The only thing that makes this story notable, besides for his recent attempt to win the public trust, is how it was reported. The report in NRG says that Moshe Leon was arrested (detained, perhaps?) for smuggling the clothes. At the same time, Kikar reports the same story just by saying a well-known accountant was arrested for smuggling clothes and that the name cannot be publicized...
I took the following screen shots of the reports within a minute of each other, so either one is breaking the gag order or the other is making up a gag order because they don't want to say his name...

The issue seems to have been blown out of proportion. The tax authorities are not really interested in going after Moshe or Rutie returning with a lot of Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren for the family even if it goes over the 200$ but after people importing stuff to sell. I guess he went overboard in going on some spending binge to get over the loss in the elections.
ReplyDeleteI guess he waited until now to do this because, had he won the election, there would have been so much money flowing to his pockets from city contracts that he could have had whatever he wanted flown FEDEX Next Day Air from Paris and paid meches whatever they wanted.
ReplyDeleteCould be that he also had to know whether he'd need to have the clothes made to order, given the extra deep pockets he would for all the envelopes.
It says it's assur to say his name because of a gag order? Or because it might be lashon hara? (Newspaper reporting has made us desensitized to this.) just saying.
ReplyDeletedummy. next time take off the tags and run them through the washer.
