I was very disappointed that someone like Calderon, not stam an am haaretz, but someone who loves learning torah, can decide to make her pesach seder unique by using bread instead of matza. there are a million ways one could make the seder and the plate unique and arouse curiosity. I am disappointed she chose to use chametz for that purpose.
I am disappointed but not surprised. Once Halacha is removed from the picture, and the Torah, though used as a source of inspiration, is viewed as not binding, ultimately anything goes.
The clip features a discussion about "alternative" Haggaddahs and Seder. MK Kalderone announces her intention to display an orange on the Seder plate along with a ... loaf of bread
The bread is only for display; when asked whether she eats it as well, her response is "Chas v'Shalom" that she would eat chametz on Pesach.
Sure, she shouldn't display it either and it would be great if she abided by halacha, but I'll bet ypu that her seder has more Jewish values to it than Burg's does, even though he is breadless while she is not.
I gained respect for her from this clip. She was the only one trying to have a civilized discussion rather than shouting down and insulting one another.
I never had that much respect so didn't have much to lose.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly bothered you?
Burg was his usual pathological self.

DeleteYes, over the top.
DeleteBut why is that a reason to lose ALL respect for her?
Her poor judgment here negates everything else?

In our "עולם הפוך", she probably sold her chametz, so one could say that there is no technical issur.
