Nechama is a thirty-something woman, mother of three. She got around the standard method of pilot candidates coming with air force pilot experience, because she desired it to greatly. To get around the lack of flight experience, she reportedly traveled annually to the USA to fly and accrue the necessary flight hours.

According to the Shemeshnet article Nechama is actually from the Bet Shemesh region. And I have it on good authority that she is actually from RBS.
Kol hakavod to Nechama. She shows us that you can follow your dreams and succeed, even against strong odds.
And this is great, as long as she does not also have a haredi co-pilot. If that would happen he might refuse to sit next to her during the flight! Sorry, I couldn't resist the humor... :-)

ReplyDeleteHuh? How does that give you any experience to be a pilot? I have flown numerous times, and all that gave me experience in is cramped legs, bad food and annoying children.
lol.. the flight experience she got from flying airplanes while in the USA. I presume she also learned to land, unlike some other students in previous years.
ReplyDeleteher flight to the USA on the jumbo jet probably didnt count towards this
Is flying the plane and being in command of the vessel considered serara?
ReplyDelete:-)
Maybe she pilots from behind a mechitzah. ;-)
DeleteHe. Flies from behind a mechitzah. And has his own microwave for his rebbe approved meals, davens in a minyan with the passengers riffraff, a takes time off all ehe time for breakfast, 'aruchat esser', lunch, etc. Sooner or later, the (female) co-pilot is doing all the flying.o
DeleteDon't worry only Charedi women are allowed to go to work, it won't happen.
DeleteShe is Bentzi Novack's sister and she does live in RBS. She has worked in the past as a pilot on charter flights, but Elal usually only takes pilots who went through Israeli army training which she didn't do- she trained in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there a humongous issue yichud about being locked in the pilot's cabin for extended periods of time?
