According to Ilatov, declaring Aliyah Day will be an encouragement to new immigrants, it is a day of thanking immigrants for their contributions to Israel, and it will increase appreciation for the sacrifices they make to move to Israel and fulfill the Zionist dream.

I don't know why he picked the 10th of Nissan. I wonder if it has anything to do with that being the day when the Jews took the Egyptian lamb and tied them to their bedposts. Maybe it is symbolic as recognizing that immigrants are set to be like a sacrificial lamb.
This is just what Israel needed. Another holiday. I think they should also mandate this as a "federal holiday", being a day off of work and school.

The 10th of Nissan is the date that Am Yisrael first entered the Land of Israel with Yehoshuah Bin Nun (See joshua 4:19)
ReplyDeleteI also approve of a national civic holiday, but coming so close to Pesach is not relevant...
