I am not judging Leah for a minute- I do not know how it feels to want to take your child to public places and feel that people are so utterly cruel when seeing your child with special needs.
What I do know is that we as a society need to aiming so much higher- what the heck is wrong with us that we can't live with children with special needs in sight? It would be so much greater if every family could feel comfortable to eat out with their child because others would accept that this is the reality- each person born with a different role, with different challenges and with different things to offer the world.
Instead, this is perpetuating the old ways of hiding these children out of sight- and we all lose.
This makes me so.so. sad.
