children know best...

the following video taken by Yaakov Lederman is of a mob in RBS B being aggressive in the presence of two Haredi IDF soldiers. It turns out this was a sting operation and it was undercover police who then turned around and arrested some of the ringleaders.

We have "gotten used to" these types of mobs. I don't mean we find them normal and acceptable, but we are not surprised by them any more.

As I was watching the video, it struck me that what bothered me more than the harassing of Haredi soldiers, as bad as that is, and more than the violence (only verbal in this video and not physical, though that happens as well on occasion) is that children have been trained to be disrespectful to adults. With no sense of perspective there are children boldly telling adults how to live their lives and what is right and what is wrong.

For that I grieve.

  1. Its awful, but the thing that strikes me is the fact that the abuse is all verbal until the end where the police are attacking the Chareidim. The Chareidim were wrong, but what an amazing coincidence that the video leaves out the justification of the violent arrests. To me this just shows more unjustified abuse. For THAT you should be weeping

    1. The entire mob action was a crime. The police were more than justified.

  2. that doesnt bother me because I know that they perpetrate plenty of violence in these situations. I dont know what happened in this mob and if it got physical or not, but arrests can be made for verbal harassment as well. soldiers are protected in Israel. but it is also likely that some of them got physical. so that doesnt bother me. that is the normal cycle in rbs b. they get violent, the police arrest. the police let them out. they get violent. they get arrested. the police let them out. etc

  3. So 2 minutes of non-violent, though verbally aggressive protesting is captured in the video. Then a convenient pause in video where suddenly there are Chareidim being violently arrested, despite showing no signs of physical aggression, but that is justifiable to you because, you know, as you say " they perpetrate plenty of violence in these situations ". Seems to me that they used your justification for the violent arrest instead of waiting for violence. No, that is not ok.

    1. A convenient pause (really transition), which leaves us with no idea what happened to cause police to jump on the one person being arrested in the video. The person was resisting arrest, and the police was subduing him. This is normal police behavior in every civilized country in the world. It's not an example of police brutality.

Despite video evidence of Charedim in BS being violent towards unarmed women, you choose to assume that Charedim were perfectly innocent, minding their own business, and the police just jumped them for no reason. Your view fails the smell test. I think we need some air freshener and some open windows.

    2. A mob following someone down the street screaming for that amount of time is a perfect example of, at least, the common-law crime of assault.

  4. I'm glad that the IDF and/or Police are finally taking these attacks more seriously. Shame it had to be preceded by a woman being violently attacked by a child who has been raised to viciously attack strangers. Almost as if Charedim are raising pit bulls, and not children.
