Minister Yisrael Katz posted this picture of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and called for showing mercy and supporting the early release of Olmert from prison. Olmert was being checked in the hospital after suspicions of a possible heart attack and his feeling weak and ill.
The picture spread like wildfire and opened a debate about Olmert, showing mercy and early release.
I don't want to say he should not be released early just because I don't like him, but do they release any sick, or not well, prisoner early from prison because one should show mercy? if that is a general policy, then go ahead. If it is only being applied for Olmert, then no.

The early release has nothing to do with his health condition. Every prisoner after doing 2/3rd of his term is entitled to apply for early release. THere was some question about a book he was writing and some classified material, so the plan was to deny him early release because of that. Maybe now because of his health, people are asking not to be so strict on him. Bennett and Katz says his contribution to the state is so much he should be released. however I find that hard to swallow. According to that logic, he should not have been sentenced in the first place. However if he is ready for early release and has not done anything bad, then he should be considered for release. Health should not be an issue, as he is in hospital anyway.
