The Supreme Court today decided that divorced parents of children (between the ages of 6-15) will both need to pay child support and split it each according to his or her financial capabilities.
Until now the father always paid child support to the mother, no matter if the mother had greater financial means or earning power than he did, or not.
To me this makes sense and fits today's world far more than it did previously. Today women work and often the wife might earn more money than the husband (about as often as the husband earns more than the wife), and it makes sense that the wife should contribute equally (from a sense of equal responsibility) as the husband.
As has been pointed out, this is not just making the women pay, but it is recognizing their role, or at least another stage in recognizing their role, in society today as being equal to men and not just as a recipient from her husband.
