easy conversion of foreign license in effect

Big news for new immigrants in Israel. The reform for converting foreign drivers licenses has gone into effect and now new immigrants will have an easier, and cheaper, experience converting to an Israeli license.

To qualify for this, the new immigrant must have been in Israel less than 3 years, and must have had a valid foreign license for a minimum of 5 years (and it must still be valid). More information is available at *5678

I suspect that there will be glitches at the beginning. Some clerks might not know all the details of the required procedures and when this works and when it does not, but I would guess that soon enough it will proceed smoothly.
