Very, very sad how 98% of those interviewed knew absolutely nothing of a bssic concept of Torah. The only ones were the last two religious interviews (the young man and then the two girls) who knew and understood somewhat Tikkun Olam is.
ReplyDeleteIn the States, the liberal, leftist Jews think they know what it is and it is a religion to them. Woe, woe! They feel if they worry about the world, it clears their conscience that they know nothing of what a Jew is, and instead they care more and do more for everything and everyone else, except their fellow Jews, and without G-D in their midst.
Tikkun Olam is when the Jewish people will return to their roots, to H' and His Holy Torah and live the Jewish life as commanded by Torah, then the world will have tikkun, thereby the nations will learn and know that there is only H'.
To the best of my knowledge, the only example in the Gemara of "Tikun Olam" is when dealing with the case of a slave who is half free, and therefore unable to marry (cannot marry a slave or a free woman) and because of "Tikun Olam" his master should free him so that he can marry.
ReplyDeleteThis would imply that the purpose of "Tikun Olam" is to bring a new generation into the world. However I don't think that the Liberal Strands of Judaism who have build a whole religion around the phrase "Tikun Olam" know what it means in Jewish sources.
