Netanyahu destroying the Right

I get that Netanyahu wants everyone to support the Likud rather than the smaller parties, not including the Haredi parties as he does not seem to try to grab their voters, but I do not get how he plans to get there and succeed. He is fighting with everybody now. Does he really think their supporters are going to support him after the way he attacks them and treats them like dirt?

Does he really think the Russians are going to support him en masse and he will be able to wipe out Lieberman by running a Russian campaign after the way he treats Lieberman, going on record about how vile he is and how he will ban him form any future government and the like?

Will the supporters of Bennett and Shaked really switch allegiances to the Likud after he fires them like dogs just so they can't use their offices and have appearances of positions of power? And, if he is going to lock Lieberman out of any government, does he not think he will need the support of these other politicians to make up for it?

Does he think his attempts to weaken divide the United Right, trying to split Peretz and Smotritch, will be appreciated?

Unless he thinks that by attacking all these other guys he is going to grow the Likud to a party of 50 or 55 seats on its own, and then he doesn't need anyone else (except Shas and UTJ), what he is doing makes no sense.

Unless he thinks they will all grovel back to him anyway the way they always have. He knows they'll recommend him no matter what, so he can treat them like dirt and steal many of their voters, and he'll still get their support because they have no other choice.

I really think Netanyahu is doing more harm than good for the Likud, and for the right wing in general. The Likud needs to find a way to send him off into the sunset, so they can regroup and lead the country again.

Sure, Netanyahu will run another last moment "gevalt" campaign, screaming how the sky is falling and they are about to lose the elections. That will steal some votes from the other right wing parties. He has done this in the past couple of elections to great success. I am not so sure how well it will work this time after he has fought with everyone and how close it is to the last elections so it is all still so fresh in everyone's mind. They will remember that despite the gevalt, he won big and was never at risk, as the Left has no way to form a coalition anyway.

But with Netanyahu at the helm, I think he is turning people away from the Likud. His behavior is upsetting many. Perhaps his political wizardy will fix it before the last moment, but I think his best years are behind him.

  1. Someone needs to put together videos of Netanyahu's "gevalt" campaigns, splice them together with a date caption on each one, and circulate it a week before the elections. To neutralize whatever he tries this time around.
