contradictory lockdown rules with bonfires

A lot of the rules for the lockdown and the easing up of the lockdown continue to seem illogical and even contradictory at times.

For example, Tonight, Lag B'Omer, there is a full closure in the area of Meron, and there is also a ban on all bonfires everywhere in the country. No bonfires at all. They do not want people gathering together at bonfires and possibly spreading the virus.

At the same time that bonfires are fully banned, one could hold a bbq with up to 50 people present and have a great time together (standing 2 meters apart, with masks, etc).

So why is the bonfire a problem but not the bbq?

The truth is, it does not matter. The government is not leaving it up to us to decide. Bonfires are banned. They are problematic. That is true even if some of the other rules don't make sense, considering the bonfire ban. Do not decide for yourself that a private bonfire in your backyard is ok. Besides for the danger, someone will surely see and they'll think it is ok and they'll make one and then other people will make bonfires and other people will surely not be as careful as you with the social distancing rules. And besides for that, the punishment for a bonfire this year is up to 6 months in jail and/or 14,400nis fine.

Just don't do it
