Picture of the Day

This is Chabad shliach to Chiapas Mexico, Mendy Turgeman, putting tefillin on someone protesting with a big sign against bris mila. In the comments on the picture people were criticizing him and demanding an explanation how he could put tefillin on someone like that. he basically explained that he has a mitzva to love him as a Jew, and the protester has a mitzva to put on tefillin, despite his opinion on bris mila. The protester agreed to put the tefillin on as long as he wouldnt have to put down his sign. He said he is opposed to bris but has no problem with tefillin

  1. Both are called an אות in the Torah. He's replacing one for the other.

Chabad never subscribed to הלעיטהו לרשע וימות. Whichever philosophy is better is above my pay grade.

  2. Sometimes Chabad nowadays goes too far and has become too lenient in many ways. Don't believe that this is what H' wants. Doubt very much if the Rebbe, ztl, was still alive if he would allow this behavior. Every group, no matter what & who, needs a leader; otherwise, everyone can have an opinion of his own (like l'havdil, anarchy).

  3. Hey, you never know. Maybe his interaction with the chabad shliach may soften his opinion of religious Jewry.
You can never know it's potential for years down from now.

  4. Btw, on my phone I can't see the sign clearly. Is he against Bris mila or only metziza b'peh? Cause that's what the mohel in the picture looks like?

    1. based on the words on the sign it is the entire thing. maybe partially because of what is in the picture. In the comments turgeman said clearly the fellow is anti-cricumcision
