masks instead of seat-belts...

I remember the days when people would post on the local community groups - Facebook and email - warnings, or announcements, to beware of certain streets, often in the shopping center of the neighborhood, because police were stationed there checking drivers and passengers for seat-belts and for holding the mobile phone and/or talking while driving, and other common violations that brought in nice revenue to the police station.

Today I drove past police in the neighborhood shopping center, but they were not stopping cars looking to hand out tickets for hands-free violations and seat-belts. The police today are out looking to fine people, pedestrians and consumers of public transportation, for not wearing masks properly.

It seems the masks bring in more revenue nowadays than the seat-belts...

  1. The statistical externalities today is more meaningful for a mask than a seat-belt. so it makes sense.

  2. Also a big difference between masks and seat-belts. If I refuse to wear a seat belt, I put my own life at risk, but minimal risk to others. If I refuse to wear a mask, I put everyone else's life at risk, but minimal risk to myself.

  3. As is written on Facebook: We've gone from "click it or ticket" to "mask it or casket."
