The MKs were supposed to receive a 7% salary increase for 2021. Several MKs announced they would refuse an increase in light of the many workers who have been laid off or put on furlough over the past year, largely due to CoronaVirus. They decided it would not be good to increase salaries in the public sector for public representatives while employees, especially employees working for minimum wage and other lower level pay positions are losing their jobs.
This trend turned into an actual law proposal to freeze all MK salaries.
While initially similar law proposals would have frozen salaries of all public sector senior salaries, such as judges, ministers, MKs and others, this law proposal in the works right now will only freeze the salaries of MKs and nobody else.
