Dressed to the Nines

Many people in the frum community, upon receiving the first, or now the second, dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, said some sort of a bracha and/or tefilla to praise and thank God for enabling the scientists to discover the vaccine to end the pandemic.

Rabbanit Koldetzky, the daughter of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, took the celebrations even further.

Hamechadesh reports that when Rabbanit Koldetzky called upon teachers, specifically women, to go get vaccinated she says Hashem sent us the cure for the plague. And while people are, as usual, concerned about a new vaccine, that is what the gedolei yisroel are for - the rabbonim have said to go get vaccinated, and that's what everyone is doing.

Rabbanit Koldetzky said she went to ask her father, Rav Chaim Kanievsky, whether or not she should get vaccinated. He said she should. She says that when she went for the shot, she dressed up in Shabbos clothes, said a preliminary prayer about going to follow the instructions of the rabbonim, and went for her vaccination. Then she said a prayer when getting the shot.

I haven't heard of anyone else getting dressed up for the vaccine. Though the dressing up might have been for the act of listening to Rav Kanievsky's instructions and less for the vaccine, but they do go together, at least somewhat..

Good health to all.

  1. Well, dressing in a black t-shirt seems to be the look for politicians getting the shot. A friend even went out of his way to get one when he got the shot.

What tefillah is there for listening to gedolim? I'd say a prayer for having our own minds.
