I don't know if she is Jewish, nor do I know what the tat means - it seems to saw I awake morning, unless the words are formed into some play on words meaningful to her, I guess. Or some mistrake by the tattoo artist...

"I am black-skinned"?
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone tried to translate "I will awake the dawn" from Tehillim back into Hebrew instead of looking it up in a Hebrew bible אָעִירָה שָּׁחַר
ReplyDeleteNot unheard-of to see tattoos in Hebrew on non-Jews in the States
ReplyDeleteI am a woke black
ReplyDeleteThat is very clever. I lean toward "I wake at dawn."
DeleteHope she's not Jewish; it's hard to see many young secular Jews having tatoos, r'l.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of when I was in a training and the girl next to me who was Haitian had a YKVK on her arm. She saw I was wearing a yarmulke, and asked me to read her arm. I said I can't say the sound, but it's G-d's name. She said "whew, the tattoo guy said it was but I don't read Hebrew, so I was never sure". I asked her why she got that specifically and she said she wanted to feel authentically connected to the people. IDK what that meant exactly, but she was a very nice person to be in class with.
ReplyDeleteI had a similar experience at a service plaza in Indiana. Young man with wife and two kids and YKVK in big blue letters from just below inside his elbow to the wrist. He was very excited to show it to me.
