You cannot sustain a Jewish army without a division of Torah learners. This is how it was by King David as well - half the nation learned Torah and half served in the army, and then they switched places. I am prepared for such an arrangement today - the problem is that the State youth are disconnected from Judaism.

    So of course only charedim get to learn. Why should anyone else get the chance? Let them stay ignorant.
