Dugo Day

We have all sorts of days to commemorate things, whether national or international days, such as Talk Like a Pirate Day, Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, Hot Dog Day, and many more. Some ignore them, some dont even know about them, some commemorate the ones that are representing issues close to their hearts, some celebrate with the ones they like (who cant get behind eating ice cream for breakfast?)...

Dugo Day is one that every Israeli should find a way to celebrate.

Dugo Day is a commemoration created by David "Dugo" Leitner. On January 18, 1945 Dugo survived the Death March from Auschwitz and survived until liberation. When he made his way to the Land of Israel he decided to memorialize the day by eating something round that reminded him of the round rolls his mother made for him. Eating falafel on January 18 became a symbol for him of his victory over the Nazis. It started with just Dugo and spread to his family and friends and community and eventually took off nationally.

Eat your falafel today and stick it to the Nazis and all the other antisemites out there.
