Hezbollah vs Hamas

Israeli security experts keep saying that Hezbollah, led by Nasrallah, is not interested now in widening the conflict and going to war with Israel.

Why am I not inspired with confidence?

Isn't that exactly what they thought about Hamas for years until October 7?

  1. I think one thing to consider is that, until now, Hezbollah has been content with exchanging fire with border troops and trying the occasional drone flyover. Remember: they have 100 000 powerful rockets. If they were serious about engaging Israel, they'd have started firing heavily the minute Israel entered Gaza.

  2. Their number one goal is self-preservation. They read the current situation as leading to their destruction if they start up with Israel. Whether that's from a retaliation from Israel, the US carriers in the Easter Med. or something else.

  3. There's no question Israel could destroy Hezbollah. The question, rather, is: how much of Israel would be destroyed before they accomplished that?
