Interesting Psak: Davening for Israel

Rav Ahron Feldman, Rosh Yeshiva of Ner Israel in Baltimore, is in Israel and paid a visit to Rav Moshe Shternbuch, Raavad of the Eida Hachareidis.

Rav Feldman asked Rav Shternbuch how to daven in these times - should we daven for the success of the State of Israel - what nusach should be used?

Rav Shternbuch answered that we should daven that the name of Hashem will be sanctified across the world and that no Jew should suffer.

Rav Shternbuch mused - it would seem the two are a contradiction, and how can they exist together? We are not the guardians of that - that is not our problem and do not need to explain it or figure out how they go together.

  2. Rav Shternbuch's answer is very wise. His answer is just what Am Yisrael needs in a state
of war; the main thing is to sanctify G-D's Holy Name throughout the world and to pray for the safety of every Jew in EY and everywhere. R'l, we see that it's still hard for Jews these days
to rely solely on our Creator and no one else and that the safety of our people comes first at such a dangerous time! May Hakadosh Baruch Hu protect all the chayalim and we pray that
the hostages who are still alive come home safely to their families.

  3. How on Earth are they a contradiction? The Navi says that when Jews suffer it's a chillul Hashem.

    1. I don't see the contradiction, either.

  4. By the way, Feldman wants a nusach? Open up any Koren or Rinat Yisrael siddur, go to right after Yekum Purkan. There you'll see a nusach, written by one of the greatest gedolim of the 20th Century.
