from the shooting last night

somebody asked me to post the following:

We all know what has happened today at Yeshivat Mercas HaRav. Eight yeshiva students, five high schoolers and three yeshiva gedola students, were killed in cold blood by an Arab with a kippa. PLEASE, we cannot let this go on without this changing us in some way. We must do two things: ONE, in whatever way you can, fight against this injustice. Whenever you see any slanted media reporting, write a letter to the editor. Write or call the White House about Jonathan Pollard or Darfur. Check Israeli websites EVERY DAY and subscribe to their email list to keep up on the news. Comment on their sites. Comment on blogs. Call politicians. Hashem gave us free choice, and we have the power to change the world if we so will it. SECOND: we have to look within ourselves and our society and find what it is that is faulty within us. Whether it is society at large- and there is no lack of that- or ourselves as a whole, WE MUST CHANGE, or there will be no end to the tragedy! The Ribono Shel Olam is looking down at us from shamayim and waiting to see our reaction when we are killed and trampled on. And this is why I am begging you to please do two thing: one, to take on a kaballah, any kaballah, that you will do something to end the tragedy within us- whether it is an email to the White House to free Jonathan Pollard every day, whether it is davening every day, whether it is spreading ahavas chinam in klal Yisrael- TAKE ON SOMETHING to show Hashem that we really care, and do not live our lives in our bubble. Look within yourself to see what it is that Hashem wants you to be and begin working on that goal. TWO- START SAYING ACHEINU every day. Stand up and say it in shul, school, on the train, wherever there are Jews who belong to our nation. This cannot go on forever. We must stop this and bring forth the Mashiach already. ***Enough is enough.***

Please daven for the injured:
Naftali ben Gila
Yonatan ben Avital
Shimon ben Tirza
Nadav ben Hadas
Reuven ben Naomi
Elchanan by Zehava

and say Tehillem for them and those who tragically were killed. Also tragic is the attack on Israeli soldiers this morning, and Rabbi Segal's death.
Tens of rockets fall on Sderot each day. We cannot let this go on!

    Bad4Shidduchim,

Thank you for your impassioned request. Thre's just one thing.

I'm not sure what Darfur has to do with it.

Jews have also pursued justice, even when non Jews are in need of our advocacy.

I'm not saying this is wrong, But look where this has gotten us.

There is a klal from Haza"l: "Esau sone eth Ya'aqov." Esau hates Ya'aqov.

Each minute which is used for the sake of goyim and not for Jews and in particular Jews in Eretz Yisrael risks the lives of Jews.

Muslims are killing the blacks in Darfur. Esau is not doing anything, just standing idly by "talking," which we know does not work with muslims.

Meanwhile "refugees" are streaming into Israel, and we are being criticized for not doing enough for them. Where's Egypt? The US? Europe?

The refugees are coming to Israel because they know Jews are suckers enough to help them.

I'm not saying we shouldn't cry out regarding injustices to the goyim. But to use a goyshe cause in the same post with the killings of Jewish martyrs is truly offensive.

One of those killed happened to have been a former student of mine.

No I will not post this from you. Yet, every time I see this posted to someone's blog, I will counter with this comment.

We do need to pray, and help our brother Yonathan. But we also need to stop connecting with the goyim and start taking full responsibility for ourselves first.

The pasuq about pursuing justice in Parshath Shoftim is related to the Land of Israel, not goyim.

Don't you get it? No one else will help us, not the oil-addicted U. S. president, not self-hating U. S. organizations, not anyone.

    Sincerely,
    Ben-Yehudah

  2. I just heard back from Bad4Shidduchim, and I would like to complement her on her willingness to discuss this matter, and to be open minded about it.

That sounds kinda weird to me.

I kinda agree on that. Not offensive, but just not as high on the same priority list.

If my family is being killed (which it is), i'd be a bit bothered (stunned) if someone tried to talk to me about Darfur.

  4. Miriam, I thought about writing "good and decent citizens of the world," and then write "suckers" in parentheses, or something like that.

The truth we are co-dependents, more concerned about getting validation and [I'll say the word] love from outside sources (goyim) than from within, or in many cases (evil eruv rav gov't officials) from HaShem.

The world looks around, and sees Israel as the only country which does what other countries tell it to do. Even if they (Europe) agree with Israel's restraint or helping of refugees (Viet Nam, Bosnia, Darfur), they still Israel as doing what's it's been told to do, rather than standing on its own two feet and taking pride in itself and in its own identity.

I stand by my "suckers" comment.

You don't see the refugees stopping in Egypt, do you? ...and for good reason. Call Egypt selfish, but they recognize that they have their own problems, even besides the unpopularity of helping these refugees fleeing from Arab oppressors.

  5. Um - while I agree with the cause, this wasn't from me.
